About the Authors
Steve Sombrero, a true islander by nature, proudly calls the scenic south shores of Oahu, Hawaii, his home. Born in Okinawa, Japan, and raised on the isle of Guam, he embraces a deep sense of gratitude for his journey of resilience and self-discovery that has led him to this very day.
Alongside managing one of Hawaii’s largest and oldest real estate companies, Steve is a passionate entrepreneur who founded the Aloha Beer Company in 2010. Embodying the spirit of Aloha, he actively supports purpose-driven organizations, promoting youth education, and cross-border exchange programs. As an Eagle Scout and collector of proverbs and parables, Steve enjoys unearthing the profound meaning and joy of life.

Candice Sombrero Ishikawa, a business and psychology graduate, channels her marketing expertise as the creative force behind her family’s brewpub business, Aloha Beer Company, located in Kaka’ako, on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
As the daughter of a serial entrepreneur, Candice passionately merges business innovation with a deep understanding of human behavior to foster a thriving workplace culture. Drawing from her personal journey with depression and body image, she is committed to destigmatizing mental health challenges through advocacy that promotes education, open-mindedness, and unwavering self-resilience.
When not immersed in her work, Candice enjoys listening to audiobooks, brainstorming ideas, and strives for a life of frivolous creativity surrounded by animal companions. She resides in Honolulu, Hawaii, with her husband Yusuke, and their beloved dog Packard and cat Luci.
